What's New On The Net completes 3 years tomorrow

Wow! Three years. Heck of a long time in the life of a Startup. Yup, What's New On The Net completes 3 years of being Online tomorrow, i.e. March 13, 2013. And we are proud to state that we have done it by putting in our own funds, sweat and long hours.

Rather than take readers on a nostalgic trip, as Editor of the website, I have instead decided to use this post to talk of the changes that we have ushered in to mark the third anniversary.

For one, version Beta 2.0 comes with a new logo. More dynamic than the previous one but still carrying our trademark WWW (personifying the World Wide Web).

We have also changed our Home Page and some of the Inside Pages and have tied up with RebelMouse for their design. The Home Page is more tile-oriented, in tune with contemporary design.

When you click on any story on the Home Page, you are now taken to www.internet.whatsnewonthenet.com where you will see a website whose design is easy on the eye, clean and efficient.

We have also decided to expand our coverage beyond just merely featuring Internet Startups and Smartphone Apps. One addition is that we now human curate Internet related news from other parts of the WWW so as to make your visit to What's New On The Net a more complete experience.

There's more.........but I shall leave you all here with a request to please check out our website for yourselves. Do write in to us, telling us what you think of all the changes.

Cheers

Change of guard at the helm...& other stuff

Yes, we know. It's been a while since we posted on our Blog. There's a reason why. Since the last time we posted here, many things have happened. Guess we were busy tackling them & our tired souls found no time to come here to post. Bad policy, we know, but then such is life.

Very quickly. Our previous Editor NuNet has retired (just joking. He's moved on). What's New On The Net is now being edited by Sorab Ghaswalla, ( the man who's writing this post). For more on him ( me) here's some details:

An old world journalist who went to the light. Sorab Ghaswalla is a born-again chronicler (this time digital), a newbie Internet Entrepreneur and a digital world consultant, all rolled in one. One of the Internet’s earliest advocates, he was snared by the Web in 1999. He’s been in the zone ever since. To give a more formal touch to his Internet nomadism, he recently founded an Internet consultancy firm, New Age Content Services LLP (www.newagecontentservices.com). The firm also owns two Sites – What’s New On The Net (http://www.whatsnewonthenet.com) and the 1st-ever Digital World Lifestyle Blog called Always Above the Fold (http://www.alwaysabovethefold.com), which Sorab edits. Roaming the labyrinths of the digital world, he occasionally surfaces in the real one. Because of which his family and friends have given him the moniker -The Digital Monk.

Hi Guys.....

Okay, now I shall quit talking about me in the 3rd person.

What's New On The Net has been chugging along quite nicely, thank you. I have tweaked the layout a little, made it more reader-friendly. No major changes though. The aim of the website remains the same - to be a one-stop window for all developments related to the digital world including Internet related Startups, & in the world of smartphone apps.

New Age Content Services LLP,  our management, has also launched the 1st-ever digital world lifestyle Blog called Always Above the Fold. So go have a look because that Blog, too, is run by yours truly.

There are many things that we at What's New On The Net are looking out for (See the list below):

1) Partners ( full time or part-time)
2) Venture Funding
3) Freelance writers

So, if you are any one of these, write in to administrator (at) whatsnewonthenet.com

Before I sign off, I promise to post here more often.

Cheers

2 years of existence

That's the right word. On March 13, we complete 2 years of my Website's "existence". To be frank, when I had started the Site I had not envisaged it getting past the 6 months mark. But look at it guys, 730 days of existence....all on our own money & wit & initiative....surely it deserves a little pat on the back, huh? Applause....

First, lets get the business part of it out of the way before I get all sentimental about the journey so far. For our 2nd anniversary, we at Whats New On The Net have launched Market2Net, a new service for Startups/Internet Products & Smartphone Apps. M2N is a telescoped Marketing/Branding/PR/Advertising service that will hold hands with Internet Startups in their initial days & go about telling the Online world about them. So, while the Startups owners/managers are busy running the Site & attending to related issues like Servers, design and funding, Market2Net will do all the publicity for the Startup across the Web. The service will make enough noise for people & organisations across the length and breadth of the Internet to sit up and take note. For US $100 dollars for a month, we will do it. This is a personalized service & not a mindless automated one. Each client will be handled by our in-house M2N executive on a one-on-one level.

Of course, there's a lot I can say about Market2Net but guess readers may have got enough of a general idea by now. To know more, you may click here.

The other thing I have done is that our highly popular The Most Useful Website of the Month will now be extended to Smartphone Apps. So starting April 2012, we will start announcing The Most Useful Smartphone App of the Month, too, so watch out for that one. We have also made a few design changes to the Website, too.

Now., to the nostalgia part....so the last 2 years have certainly been an eye-opener, to put it mildly. We discovered a whole new world Online & now are proud members of it. And proud of the fact that members of this community chose to follow us - our Website, on Facebook, on Twitter, on Chime.in, on every Social Network that we are members of...so a big THANK YOU to all of 'em, & a BIG request - Keep following us guys.

Focusing on the year gone by, Whats New On The Net has moved up several notches & passed some more milestones in its journey. The Website got Google Rank 3, in the last year we set up our Board of Advisors & also our first advisor, Fred. T, based in Palo Alto, USA, we got a little bit more advertising, a tad more readers, some more recognition as publishers of Startups, Internet news & developments...& of course some brickbats too (sorry there for letting you down).

We also joined several more Social Networks like Google+ & Chime.in. We also launched our website's mobile phone version on Dudamobile. Another important milestone was our website's LIVE events section. We have already shown several world events live, most recent being the launch of the 3rd version of Apple iPad.

There are many such milestones that we hurtled past in the last 365 days but listing them all here would be kinda blowing our own trumpet. We would like our work to speak for itself. But before logging out from here, let me assure our fans/readers of an even better 3rd year of operations & a request to keep following Whats New On The Net & providing support.

So long

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

The first quarter of 2012 has been quite fruitful for the website. Not only has our website grown in traffic, we have also started getting some advertisements outside Google Ads.

Whats New On The Net has made further inroads in consciousness of Internet readers. The flow of letters from readers is more, free lance writers have started asking us whether they could write for our website, it is clear that the website is becoming a recognisable and solid place for all info related to the Net and Smartphone Apps.

We have not made any major changes to the Site. With our 2nd aniversary approaching in March, all pending changes shall be implemented then. There could be surprises in store for our readers,so watch out.

Cheers till then.

Our Man in Silicon Valley, Our Very 1st Advisor Comes on Board

Hi,

Yup, I know it's been awhile since I have posted something here. Several things have conspired to ensure I didn't - our Web Host Co's server went down, a virus attack.....But on the heels of such bad tidings came some good news.

After almost 20 months of Beta operations, our website has got its 1st Advisor. Yup, we had decided to constitute a Board of Advisors whose role basically would be to hold our hands till such time we hit "pay dirt" (by that we mean at least our 1st round of funding).

So, we started identifying, sending requests to "well-known" names in Startup circles, joined numerous Startup platforms & finally our efforts fructified. Actually, the initial correspondence was carried out over Angellist, a community of Startups, & Fred T, accepted on Dec 5, 2011.

So, we welcome the versatile Mr Fred T, our very 1st Advisory Board Member.

Here's a link to Fred's bio.

Very briefly, Fred is the Chief Executive Office & co-founder of Moolave, a Cloud-based storage solution for government & mobile-based enterprise platform for consumers. But Fred is a versatile guy, one reason why we approached him. Having moved to Palo Alto, California, USA, some years ago, Fred has a decade of finance and business development experience.

We are now looking around for more Advisors, & hopefully once our full Board is constituted, the website will get the much-needed thrust to go into the next orbit.

Till the next post, cheers.

We Just Went Up in Google Rank

Hi,

There's so much that has happened on my Website after I last posted here but I have had absolutely no time to post about these developments until now.
But 1st for the immediate good news: Your fav Website just went up one more rung in Google Ranks from 2 to 3 today. Cheers & thanks to all our readers.
Then, the Website has become part of many more Social Networking Sites. You know, you will be surprised to know that at last count, www.whatsnewonthenet.com
was a member on as many as 18 Social Networks. Wow!
The latest additions are Chime.in ( we talked about this one in an earlier post too) and Diaspora. Both are brand new Social Networking Sites, though Diaspora has been in the news on and off because of its open-source nature.

&

Well, it does not end here. Besides the fact that our Page Views & number of readers have been steadily climbing, we also have a new Brand Page on Google+

Whew! That was a mouthful. Anyway, I have said all that I had to say...while to all of you I just have to say, "Keep following our Site".

Bye

We are delirious! We have just been ranked in the top 1% of Websites/Blogs by Social Media Monitoring tool Proliphiq

Many developments have happened since the last time I wrote. 1st, my Website has joined a new Social Networking Site called Chime.in.

In case you are unaware of this, Chime.in was launched just a few days ago by UberMedia, the guys who are one of the best known developers of feature-rich Social Media Apps. We have even started our own community there called Netizens. This community is a free-for-all corner for all those who are fans of the Internet or Smartphones, who love the Web community & wanna get regular updates about it. You can join by clicking on http://chime.in/community/Netizens

Our experience of Chime.in has been fun. I suggest all of you check it out anyway & form your own opinions.

But the 2nd development has really made us hold our heads high. But let's start at the very beginning. I opened my mail & found an invite to take a round of Proliphiq, a Social Media monitoring/analytical tool which will be launched some time later in October. We looked & once again, came away quite surprised with all that quality stuff. Both Chime.in & Proliphiq, if you were to ask me, are long-race horses. Quite refreshing from all those stale SocNet (Social.Networks).

But the surprise came later today when Proliphiq ranked my website www.whatsnewonthenet.com in the top 1% of Websites/Blogs. Wow! We were knocked back; not something we expected. ...and of course, all thanks to you, our dear fans+readers.
That's one great testimonial to my Website's credibility!

You can click on

When Proliphiq opens up for the masses, do come and visit us. In fact, at both places - Chime.in & Proliphiq.

 Cheers
